The lyric we are looking for intoxicated her mind.  But the general consensus is that her recent death was due to far more abuse than this.

Who is the artist we are ‘thinking about’, what is the title of the song, and which line is running through our mind.  It’s all so insane.  Consider this our tribute.

Valentine’s Day approaches, which is the perfect time for a couple of our favorite gifts! To remind me of what I had better pick up on my way home, I’m humming a standard tune. This popular song, from a movie of the same name, features lyrics from a late 19th century poem by English poet, Ernest Dowson.

This time we would like the title, the composer, and just one of the several great artists who recorded it.

Gordon’s song takes a stinging look into England’s participation in World War I, and then compares it to heroin use in the ’80s. And kids be warned, it’s not a happy (or popular) tune.   Name the artist, the song title, and the line about our favorite beverage and you win!   Whoever comes up [...]

When Grape Stomper Todd drinks Tempranillo (the primary grape used in Rioja), he often thinks of this song.  Today’s song is named after a girl who wears a necklace made of the precious metal from this region. She loves the guy who gave it to her but he has another lady.  Too bad she’s holding [...]

I went to bed last night without having a piece of my favorite dessert. It was just as well though: my diet went to hell today after eating all that chèvre and drinking me some of my favorite beverage. To help me sleep I counted woolly beasts leaping into eternity.   Name the band, the [...]

Today, being a holiday, I was celebrating by my hearth, listening to an album with a tune on it that is named for the day’s honoree (in fact there are two songs on this album that reverence the good Reverend), but it was another song that caught my ear. As the flames leapt higher, I [...]

This being our 36th communique, it seems our Moonstone’s Music Mondays contest has mushroomed beyond our wildest dreams. But like this band, we are in a tough situation to come up with more wine songs. And this one just might send us to the alley clutching something in a paper bag.   Name the song, [...]

Well, the holidays are over. The New Year is here and there won’t be any more gifts until perhaps your birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, or maybe your wedding reception.   Did you get what you were hoping for, or did you get something more practical?   You know, if you are the first to figure [...]

MMM – Round 34 – Name the Song and the Wine Lyric

December 26, 2011

In this jazz standard, the singer seems to be in the dark about love. He (or she) heretofore has been unmoved by MOONlight, or the glow of mistletoe, or colorful visions in a glass of our favorite beverage, until they saw stars in their companion’s eyes. Then they start to get it…   Can you [...]

MMM – Round 33 – Name the Artist and the Song

December 19, 2011

We are going with a seasonal song today, but it’s not a tradional one.  This artist usually performs live with wild hair, heavy eye makeup, and no footwear.  Yet, he often wears tuxedo tails while singing and playing a grand piano. He says he’s not a comedian, but describes his act as a “funny cabaret [...]
