“My Best Frenemies Forever”

Jill shares stories about several of her best friends who help her with everyday living.  Some of these friends are rather pesky – interrupting, asking intrusive questions, and even offering unwanted advise.  Jill ponders whether these folks are really friends … or frenemies.

“High School Reunion”

As a child, Oz was the proverbial fish out of water when his family moved from Japan to Florida.  One guy in particular, a bully, was not so welcoming and made Oz’s life hell.  Years later, Oz returns to Florida for his 20thhigh school reunion. Oz spent the reunion weekend avoiding the bully.  A chance encounter gives Oz another perspective on the bully.

"Electric Fan”

In the 1970s, growing up in Cuba, it was a time of political turmoil and you had to choose sides.  The side you chose determined  whether you had access to items like TVs and electric fans.  Jose’s parents didn’t have such items, but Jose’s cousin did – a true source of friction between the cousins.  In this story, Jose reflects on his relationship with his cousin, and how they keep cool today.

In 8th grade, the Clift family moves to Bakersfield, and Todd, the newcomer in Junior High School, quickly becomes the target of two ruthless bullies.  Todd shares how he figured out how to defend himself.
